3 Reasons You Are Not Losing Weight

You stopped drinking alcohol, you have been training really hard on a consistent basis and you have devotedly been tracking your macronutrients; but your weight has just gone up!! The progress was consistent, until now – all of a sudden the numbers on the scale have shot up and you don’t know why.

Here are my top three reasons why that could be happening.

Too much salt. Be it you add too much to your food or the foods you eat contain too much.

Your regime is strict: you are smashing your training and getting the cardio in whilst operating in a calorie deficit.

If the numbers have gone up, then know this, you are not putting fat on. You are just retaining a lot of water.

So take my advice and stay focused! You must continue with the training and maintain the calorie deficit, don’t give up just yet because the water will drop.

Your body will do its thing and readjust so don’t let the numbers mess with your head.

Another reason might be because you are eating or have just eaten way too much fiber.

Don’t get me wrong, fiber is good for you. But eating tons of greens in a single portion is going to cause a swelling in your stomach. Drinking water thereafter will bloat you even further.

This can dramatically affect the numbers you see on the scales. It can go from 5 to 10 pounds overnight, just like that.

So check your weight on a daily basis. If you see a massive increase one day, then there is your answer.

Don’t worry though. It will go back down. Just decrease the fiber intake the following day. I recommend 20 to 30 grams of fiber per day – unless you are on a really high number of calories. In which case you should aim for 10 grams of fiber for every thousand calories.

The third reason has nothing to do with the diet or the training, it is all to do with stress.

If you are suffering with stress right now, be it mental or physical, that can drastically affect your progress also. Losing body fat will be challenging if you are stressed because stress results in cortisol increase.

You can put the cardio in all day long but if you are stressed, it is a lot less likely to happen for you I am afraid. Lowering the numbers on the scale is going to pose much more of a challenge than you might have initially anticipated.

So manage your stress.

Manage your personal life, manage your work life, make sure you get an adequate amount of sleep, and then revisit all else.
